Bug Bite Relief Items

by Elyse Hoffman

This summer ticks and mosquitoes are out in full force! Although traditional bug spray is NOT FSA eligible, there are many bug-fighting products you can use those pre-tax dollars on. Check out our must-have products to combat bugs this summer below:

1. Bug Bite Thing Suction Tool (FSA/HSA Eligible)

Don’t let the name deter you – this tool is a must-have for insect bites! The tool removes the venom/ irritant that is left behind after a bite. By removing the irritant, the body stops producing the reaction that is causing you to itch & swell. It works well on: mosquitoes, bees, wasps, biting flies, no-see-ums, chiggers, sea lice & more

Review: I cannot stress to you enough how much better this simple little tool has made my quality of life during summer in Ohio. It rains a lot. There are a lot of mosquitoes. Omg so many mosquitoes. I have horrific allergic reactions to mosquito bites. We’re talking bumps swelling to the width of softballs within minutes of the bite. This tool doesn’t make those bumps go away, but it stops the itch IMMEDIATELY.” – Amazon  Customer

2. Bite Away® - Insect Sting And Bite Relief (FSA/HSA Eligible)

This bite-away tool uses heat for 3-5 seconds to stop the itch of mosquito and insect bites. Simply place the ceramic contact surface of Bite Away on an insect bite or sting and select the 3 or 5-second setting. The device will safely heat up until a temperature of around 124°F which triggers a response from the body that reduces itching, pain, and swelling.

Review: “Both of my kids have an allergy to mosquito bites and every time they get a bite it swells and itches relentlessly. I’ve tried everything from itch relief sprays, creams, and lotions to anti-histamine medicines and nothing has done much to provide them relief. Until now that is. The Bite Away really works. And while this does get HOT, it won’t burn you. It took a few uses for my 9 yr old to get comfortable with the heat, but now she welcomes it because it spells RELIEF! While I can’t speak to the other “bite relief” heat pens available on Amazon, this one is legit. Buy one today, and you can thank me later!” Amazon Customer

This gel works well against insect bites and provides a cooling effect for faster relief. It provides relief from most outdoor itches associated with insect bites, sunburns, poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac.

Review: If I could give this a million stars I would. It’s the one item in my house besides toilet paper I make sure we always have. Works great on bug bites for taking the itch away. On sunburns. I use it after waxing for taking away the redness and stinging. If you have hives it helps. It has real Benadryl in it so it really helps with inflammation. Love it X a million”Amazon Customer

Review: Used this for localized 1st degree burns, sunburn, insect bites and Post-Pregnancy care. Feels cold and soothing on application and quickly numbs afterwards. Great to have around the house for kids and adults alike. I like to pack this when camping or traveling a must have for 1st aid kit.” Amazon Customer

This Tecnu Rash Relief Spray works to relieve painful itching from insect bites, sunburn, minor burns, cuts, and more. The spray application makes it easy to apply and no-touch necessary – making it a must for those painful sunburns.

Review: “I always seem to get poison ivy or poison oak once or twice each summer doing yard work no matter how careful I am. I get it pretty badly too and can’t get rid of it for 3-4 weeks. I had it for a few days before I started using this spray and some poison ivy soap with jewelweed. It started clearing up in several days. I did take ice cold showers as well to keep from irritating it, but I think this spray really helped clear the itch up much more quickly.”-Amazon Customer
